Enough is Enough!!

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"The genius of the United States is not best or most in its executives or legislatures, nor in its ambassadors or authors or colleges, or churches, or parlors, nor even in its newspapers or inventors, but always most in the common people."
~Walt Whitman

I'm sorry, but after hearing they want to sing OUR National Anthem in Spanish - enough is enough!

NEVER did they sing it in Italian, Japanese, Polish, Irish-Celtic, German, Portuguese, Greek, French, or any other language because of immigration.

It was written by Francis Scott Key and should be sung word for word the way it was written. The news broadcasts gave a translation that's NOT even close. Sorry if this offends anyone, but :

THIS IS MY COUNTRY!

Do YOU - sing MY National Anthem in YOUR COUNTRY IN ENGLISH ? ? ?

And, because I make this statement DOES NOT mean I'm against immigration!!! YOU ARE WELCOME HERE IN MY COUNTRY. Welcome to come through like everyone else has.

Get a sponsor !

Get a place to lay your head !

Get a job !

Live by OUR rules !

Pay YOUR taxes !

And

LEARN THE LANGUAGE

LIKE ALL OTHER IMMIGRANTS HAVE IN THE PAST!!! AND PLEASE DON'T DEMAND THAT WE HAND OVER OUR LIFETIME SAVINGS OF SOCIAL SECURITY FUNDS TO YOU TO MAKE UP FOR ''YOUR'' LOSSES.

If you don't want to talk about this for fear of offending someone, then YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

When will AMERICAN'S STOP giving away THEIR RIGHTS???

We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards not to

offend anyone. But it seems no one cares about the AMERICANS that's being offended!

WAKE UP America !!!

I concur.  I tihnk people who have lived here for years and yet have no desire to learn our language, and then in turn want benefits and complain should just shut up and be thankful for what they do have.

oh ho ho.

This is like the worst post of all time.

"Welcome to come through like everyone else has."

You heard them Mexico. Start killing some Native Americans.

Because it strays away from factual accuracy in favor of "talking head" viewpoints?

As a result of immigration to the United States, the lyrics of the song were translated into other languages. In 1861, it was translated into German, Yiddish by Jewish immigrants, French by Acadians of Louisiana and into Samoan.

"Nuestro Himno" used the text of the Spanish-language version translated by Francis Haffkine Snow of the "The Star-Spangled Banner" called "La Bandera de Estrellas." This version was published by the US Bureau of Education in 1919.

Basically, your chain letter speaking "the truth" is so wrong it makes my eyes bleed. Try a Google Search before hopping on a bandwagon next time.

There is a lot more wrong in all that there, that was just the easy stuff.

They have been translated but were never sung the way its being asked to do so now. I know there is a great deal factually wrong about this post; however the meaning behind it remains honest. My intent was never to be factual. They're Americans now; or at least are attempting to be. They need to start acting like it.

Nuestro Himno is meant to supplement the Star Spangled Banner, not supplant it. It's merely support for the Mexican immigrants (illegal or legal) currently living in the US.

I don't know exactly what "acting American" given the HUGE differences that can be found across the country. WASP-like, I assume...

If an American immigrated to Mexico or any other country for that matter, I highly doubt their National Anthem would be translated to supplement thos immigrants.

In any case, its not just the National Anthem! Social Security is also a huge part of it, unemployment benefits, etc. The whole gambit. Not to mention the whole not learning English issue.

the biggest stress currently on the SS system is the fact that people forgot to do their math homework, and didn't realize the effects that the Boomer population would have on the system. While illegal immigrants certainly add to it, they are not the biggest stress for it.

Plenty of white, english-speaking americans abuse the unemployment and SS systems as well. If the goal was really and truly to put an end to all that, that would be very admirable. However, they are merely ways of justifying a certain kind of racism.

Oh please! Why is it any time any kind of confrontation comes up everyone chalks it up to racism?! I don't care if you're white, black, pink, blue, Spainish, French, Tongan, or Venutian! If you're coming to American, than be a damn American! Learn the language, get a job, and be legal!

Yes there are americans who abuse the system, but then again they're AMERICANS. Does it make it right? No, but at least they're legal. Its a hell of a lot easier to deal with legal Americans breaking the law, then illegal immigrants breaking the laws of a country they're not even bound to.

Well, to be fair, there are other reasons for the problem in social security than a math issue from the baby boomers. The whole system was designed during an era in which people retired, would become bored with life and the purposelessness of not working, and die within a few years. It was never designed to handle the life and health care of so many individuals for often 10+ years after they retire with ever rising health care costs. Anyway, the translation of the national anthem is news to me. Personally I don't have much of an issue with it being translated, but it is sad that those who move here sometimes do not make the effort to learn English when it is the standard for every type of communication in the country. I do feel somewhat bad for them that they have to learn such a backward language as English, but it could be a lot worse. Some languages like Klingon are fairly messed up and arbitrary, not that many people speak it... Chinese is very hard too from what I hear. Anyway, I hope all is well with you. Talk to you later!

I'm with you, Hikari. I was just discussing this topic with my friend Hector, whose parents were Mexican immigrants. His parents are legal and learned English, and he's proud of that. Keeping Mexican heritage is one thing; America is never hurt by a mixing pot of culture. However, there is a sizable difference between culture and class.

Besides, immigration is nothing new. We've had immigrants for hundreds of years. They all had to learn English, why shouldn't Mexicans? There's nothing special or different about them. My German ancestors came to this country, learned English, and set up shop. That's just how being an immigrant works.

The immigration issue is very complex, and yet we tend to trivialize the points we disagree with, and expound on those with which we agree. The bottom line is: it has been immigrants that built this country, whether they came over on sailing ships, as mine did over 250 years ago, or they scrambled across the desert last harvest season. Although I do agree there is a tremendous financial strain on our economic system, it isn't the immigration issue causing the problems, it's the ineptitude of our government, God bless 'em. Personally, I feel that if somebody who doesn't even speak our language feels so good about being a part of our country that they want to sing our National Anthem in their own language, it seems a beautiful thing. What's the old adage? America; love it or leave it. Well, it seems they love it.

btw... My ancestors fought in the War for Independence in 1776, and my sons are directly descended from the Francis Scott Key family. My youngest son has taken up trying to learn Spanish. Go figure.

Hey Hikari! It's been far too long. I don't know if you check this thing at all anymore, but I thought I would say hi. How are you doing these days? I can imagine that you would still be very busy with the young one, but is there anything else big going on in your life? Well, I hope to hear from you eventually and in the meantime I hope that you have a fantastic day and that God may continue to grant you the blessings that God has in store for you. Ttfn!
